Loren Davis - Screenwriter
Loren Davis writes from a place of lived experience. With a career spanning decades as a Fire Chief, Search-and-Rescue Pilot, and Motorcycle Racer, Loren doesn't just imagine high-stakes scenarios—he has commanded them. Today, he translates that visceral realism into screenwriting, blending the precision of a first responder with the soul of a storyteller.
His methodical approach to craft was first sharpened in an unexpected arena: scientific research. Early in his career, Loren worked alongside Dr. Lou Herman in Hawaii, conducting groundbreaking research on dolphin language and humpback whale behavior. This background in marine mammal cognition and artificial intelligence gave him a unique perspective on non-verbal communication and the "unspoken" beats that now define his visual storytelling.
Whether he is exploring the technical accuracy of an emergency scene or the period-specific nuances of a Western, Loren's work is characterized by economical dialogue and high-stakes authenticity. His short screenplay "13 Steps" spent three years dominating the festival circuit, earning the #1 Western Short ranking on The Red List and serving as the foundation for his feature-length expansion, "Burning Water."
Currently a faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College, Loren continues to bridge the gap between technical expertise and cinematic narrative, creating stories that honor both the intensity of the setting and the depth of the character.
With retirement from fire service came a different kind of freedom—the freedom to write stories that matter, not stories designed to easily sell. Loren crafts narratives driven by character and authenticity rather than commercial trends, creating work that honors both the complexity of human nature and the truth of lived experience.

An expansion of the award-winning short "13 Steps," this three-act feature explores themes of justice, revenge, and the cycle of violence in 1880s Arizona. The script follows Tom Burroughs, a reformed outlaw turned rancher, whose peaceful life is shattered when his wife Claire is murdered. As Tom embarks on his campaign of vengeance, we witness his transformation back into the violent man Claire had hoped he'd escaped—the very darkness she died believing he had overcome. The story features a nuanced antagonist in Marcus Blackwood, a mining baron with a Welsh coal mining background, and includes authentic period detail drawn from extensive research into Western history and mining conflicts.
